Appearance[]

DRA - Kanata Inori - Full Body Sprite (HD) (19)

Kanata is a short teenage girl, being the shortest one among her classmates. She has fairly light skin and round, bright sky-blue eyes. Her tousled honey blonde hair is tied into low pigtails by thin black hair ties. Her hair is longer when she lets it loose, which is around midback length.[4]

Kanata wears a light purple buttoned shirt with a red string neatly tied under the collar and a blue pleated skirt. A slim, brown belt with a grey rectangular buckle is worn around her waist. She also wears a long, whitish gray lab coat over her clothes, white quarter-length socks and cute[4] light aqua green slippers with white soles and red crosses on the top of them.

In her illustration, Kanata wears green medical scrubs, a green cap, white gloves, a thin white ribbon tied around her waist and her usual socks and slippers, except the slippers are light blue instead of the light aqua green ones she has in her sprites.

Yuki Maeda has said that she looks like a "little sister" because of her height and appearance.

Name Etymology[]

Kanata's given name is written using the kanji 佳 (ka), meaning "good" or "beautiful", 奈 (na), meaning "what?", and 多 (ta), meaning "many". Interestingly, the second kanji 奈 (nài) means "how one can help" in Chinese. Her surname, 祷 (inori), means "to pray". The similar-sounding word for her last name, 祈り (inori), means "prayer". Her name may allude to a prayer wishing for good health.

Personality[]

Kanata is a kindhearted girl who wishes nothing more than the comfort of her patients and everyone else around her. Exceedingly formal and polite, she addresses her classmates using the prefix "Mr." or "Ms.", a habit she picked up back at the hospital.

She appears knowledgeable on medical facts, tending to give suggestions or recommendations to the other students. Though sometimes this can annoy some, Kanata means no ill-intent with what she says. [5]

After the first body discovery, Kanata appeared to blame herself for not having the ability to revive Kiyoka, though this was soon refuted by Yuki, who pointed out that it was impossible, even if she had been any more skilled.

History[]

Killing Game[]

Prologue[]

Kanata is one of the fourteen students to introduce herself to Yuki Maeda. She claims confidently that she was able to treat the other's injuries better than a school nurse. Once ready to head into the school, Kanata and the other participants would fall unconscious.

When awoken, Kanata would head to the entrance hall where she would regroup with the fourteen other participants. After an anonymous announcement plays directing everyone to the gym, Kanata would make her way there with the rest of the students. At arrival, Monokuma would announce the beginning of the Killing Game. Despite the situation, she would seem to try and stay calm despite showing traits of nervousness. [6]

Chapter 1[]

The first day of the killing game, Kanata investigates with Akane and Kiyoka, attempting to find a way outside, but instead finds the windows were covered with metal plates and some doors didn't open. A few days later, the first motive is handed out in the form of a video. Although the contents of her video and her initial reaction to it are unknown, she attempts to calm everyone down by proposing the videos could have been faked, to which Ayame agrees. After Kiyoka's body was discovered, Kanata, by using her knowledge as a surgeon, was able to point out small facts about the corpse, being able to conclude that the rope wasn't used to kill Kiyoka. Kanata was also able to conclude that facts on the Monokuma File were factually correct. [7] During the trial she was able to discover the murder weapon. She was also able to identify that the death was instant based off of information she found during the investigation. [8]

Chapter 2[]

After Mitsuhiro's execution, Tsurugi creates a group to ensure the safety of the students. Everyone, including Kanata, joins, with the exceptions of Kizuna, Rei, and Kinji. The students would investigate the places that had newly opened up after breakfast, Kanata investigating the library with Tsurugi. During her investigation, Kanata, Tsurugi and Yuki would find a piece of paper detailing the closure of Kibōgamine Gakuen. This confuses them, as they believe they are in the school during the events of the killing game. A few days later, Monokuma would call them all to the gym and give them the second motive: each other's secrets. While they aren't allowed to choose their own secret, they are allowed to choose each other's secrets. Kanata's secret and the secret she receives is unknown. The next day, Akane mentions seeing Kizuna crying during breakfast, so the students in Tsurugi's group go to the gym to invite her to rejoin. Kizuna accepts.

After the second investigation began, Kanata would assess Kizuna's body for her wounds. She would find a stab wound on Kizuna's stomach and confirm the fatal wound to be her neck wound. She would confer with Yuki about this information, and point out the amount of blood on Kizuna's body was abnormal, but say that blood wouldn't clot normally if someone's blood pressure is high, meaning that Kizuna's death would have taken a while. She would also confirm the time of death in the Monokuma File to be true. After Ayame cuts her leg, Kanata is the one to check the wound and her vitals.

The day after Ayame's execution, everyone excepting Akane, Tsurugi, Yuki, Rei and Kinji would talk amongst themselves and decide to break away from Tsurugi's authority. They'd also elect to avoid Yuki due to his secret. When they tell Yuki this, Monokuma tells them that he planted an 'imposter' early in the game, even before Kiyoka died. Everyone assumes it to be Yuki, and they promptly kick him out of their group.

Chapter 3[]

After Yuki is expelled from their group, the students, with the exception of Akane, would investigate the areas that had newly opened up, Kanata investigating the infirmary on the first floor with Kakeru. After investigations conclude, Mikako would call everyone to the dining hall to corroborate their findings.

When in the dining hall, the students would tell the others about what they found, Kinji in particular finding a cellphone in a drawer in one of the classrooms. Since Kinji doesn't know how to use the phone to call for help, he gives it to Kakeru, who finds that there's no signal. He then gives it to Rei, who figures out that the issue is the area, and discovers that Kiyoka was the original owner of the phone through looking at the phone background. The phone leaves the students confused, as since they are believed to be in the middle of Tokyo, there should be cellphone service, as well as wondering why only Kiyoka's phone is in the school. The phone is left in the hands of Kinji for safekeeping. Mikako would then show everyone the reason for calling them all to the dining hall, taking them to the storage room and saying she'd heard someone's voice from behind it, explaining that it was the reason she was late to the trial elevator the day before. After Kakeru and Haruhiko moved the bookshelf, the students saw a giant hole in the wall with a staircase leading down. When they go to enter, Monokuma stops them, showing them a gun attached to the ceiling that would shoot if they attempted to enter. With Monokuma guarding the entrance, the students are forced to give up, but Rei and Kanata reason that there must be something important down there.

The next morning, Akane would join the group for breakfast, though she would be in her shell-shocked state and unresponsive. Due to Satsuki's words of trusting Yuki, he would be reinstated into their group.

The next day, Monokuma would call the students to the gym and present the third motive to them, a video that would show the students their desires or something they want to obtain. Unlike the first motive videos, these videos would be viewed in a soundproofed dark room, so no one other than the student viewing each video could see. The students are also told they can't say tell anyone else the contents of their video or show their reactions. The contents of Kanata's video are unknown, and the order the students went in is also largely unknown. Everyone was extremely uncomfortable by the time the motives ended. Shortly after Monokuma left, Akane would snap out of her shell-shocked state, screaming and running out of the gym. The others would question why she did so, with Kinji proposing it may have been due to the motive video. The students, excepting Rei, Mikako and Kinji would go to find Akane, eventually finding her in her dorm room. Monokuma would then sound the nighttime announcement, prompting everyone to stop and go to bed.

The next night, she was ambushed by Kinji in the infirmary, and was taken to the art room so he could kill her. Kakeru would walk in on them and attempt to save Kanata by picking her up and running off, but Kinji would kill him as he tried to do so. Kanata would be taken to the science lab and her body was tied up with tape and attached to a table to prevent her from moving. Kinji set up Kiyoka's phone to vibrate at 8:30AM the next morning, attached a stun gun to it and placed it on the edge of the table at such an angle that it would fall off due to the vibrations. He would then turn on the faucet on the table, flooding the science lab overnight. The next morning, the phone went off at the preplanned time, causing the stun gun to fall in the water, electrocuting Kanata and killing her while Rei, Yuki, Mikako and Kinji witnessed it from outside the science lab door.

Chapter 5[]

It is revealed Kanata's dead body is stored on the first floor of the laboratory/fifth floor of the presumed Kibōgamine Gakuen.

Chapter 0[]

Kanata would be treating Kakeru's wound when Yuki would talk with her. She would be surprised that he spoke to her, and, believing him to be injured, offer to help him once she's done with Kakeru. When Yuki clarifies he isn't hurt, she would offer to help him if the need ever arose.

Chapter 6[]

In a flashback of Utsuro's memories during the trial, Kanata is seen hiding in a small warehouse in the Kisaragi Foundation the day the Monokuma's attacked them. She hides with Kakeru and Kinji, making her feel safer but she'd be concerned for the others. The trio would chat quietly before a Monokuma crashes down the door. Kakeru would hold it to the wall in an attempt to let Kanata and Kinji escape, but the door would close and Kakeru would be thrown into a wall, knocking him unconscious. With no way out, the Monokuma would capture Kanata.

Chapter EX[]

In the non-canonical ending in Danganronpa EX, Kanata along with everyone par Yuki and Akane would escape the Killing Game.

Talent & Abilities[]

Surgeon[]

Danganronpa Another - Kanata Inori - Talent Introduction

Kanata states that she can treat one's injuries better than a school nurse. Furthermore, Kanata's room appears to be a surgical office. It's shown that her abilities as a surgeon help during the Killing Game, due to Kanata being the only person who could perform autopsies on the corpses of the victims. She's also able to confirm information about the Monokuma File, further backing up her abilities as a surgeon.

Initial design and others[]

Kanata's early design didn't differ much from her current design. The only noticeable detail is the lack of detail. It's more simplified. When she was first being designed, she was inspired by Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc's Chihiro Fujisaki. The similar positions and hair color are some similarities. When she was first in development, she was originally going to be the blackened in Chapter 2, but it was changed later due to the motives.
