Appearance[]
Rei is a tall young woman who has rosy olive skin, yellow-orange eyes and straight, waist-length red-orange hair. While she usually styles the tips of her hair in permanent curls, it actually appears to be messy when she wakes up in the morning, and it's implied that the reason she curls her hair up is to make it look neater[4]. She also has long side bangs, which, unlike the rest of her hair, only have their ends slightly curled up.
During her time at Hope's Peak Academy, Rei wore a blue long-sleeved suit with six yellow buttons, a white dress shirt underneath, a black tie, white upper calf-length socks and red low-heeled Mary Janes. She also wears a pair of rectangular-framed eyeglasses and two white hairpins on the left side of her hair.
During the party in Chapter 4, Rei wears a red dress with two arm straps with ruffles near the hems and a green gem ribbon on the right side of her waist, red gloves that almost reach to her elbows, black fishnet tights and red high heels. Her hair is put into a high ponytail with the same two hair clips in place. Her glasses are absent in this appearance.
After becoming a member of the Kisaragi Foundation, Rei's hair is now cut to shoulder length, with her hair retaining its curled tips. Her left front bangs that she originally had are now combed back, and a single curled lock sticks out from the front of her left ear. Her attire consists of a gray double-breasted pinstripe suit with a gray pinstripe pencil skirt, a white blouse, a black tie, sheer dark brown tights and black Mary Janes. She also wears a faded light brown long coat with black-buttoned straps and side pockets over her clothes and red stud earrings. Her ID is pinned to the left side of her chest. She carries around a small handgun for defense and possibly also for combat, as seen in Super Danganronpa Another 2.
In her childhood, Rei wore a dark maroon dress with a white collar, puffed sleeves, and layered frills. Her hair was short and secured in its place with a white snap clip[4].
Name Etymology[]
In Japanese, Rei's given name 冷 means "cold" or "cool", which may refer to her personality in general. Her last name, Mekaru, uses the kanji 銘 (me), meaning "inscription" or "signature", and 苅 (karu), meaning "to cut (something)".
Personality[]
Befitting of her occupation as a professor, Rei acts mature and professional most of the time, making her seem cold and older than she really is. She absolutely dislikes having her time wasted, so she always gets to the point quickly and speaks in a blunt manner. She can also be condescending towards others, refusing to converse with people she does not find any worth to talk to. Due to this, she can sometimes go as far as ignoring a person if she sees a lack of worth in them.
It's shown that she doesn't believe that the other participants are her friends, but more so rivals that she has to face.
During class trials, Rei can be shown to be reluctant to share any information to the other participants, only giving hints when she believes it's absolutely needed.
As a present member of the Kisaragi Foundation, Rei shows a serious and competent side. While she maintains her usual cold disposition, she cares more about others than she lets on. She's shown to have some form of leadership, likely gained through her time with the Kisaragi foundation.
History[]
Early Life[]
Rei was abandoned by her parents at the age of five for reasons she didn't know at the time. It was told to her by Monokuma that her parents had financial trouble and took out many loans, with at least one corresponding with the Yakuza. They had arranged for her to be taken in by a distant relative, but the relative did not take her in, leaving her on the streets.
Before gaining the title of being the 'Ultimate Professor', Rei would teach at H University, located in the United States. Despite her age at the time, Rei professionally taught students at a college level. It's presumed that at some point afterwards, she was scouted as the Ultimate Professor due to her profession.
Danganronpa Another[]
Prologue[]

Rei is one of the 14 students introduced to Yuki Maeda at the start of the game. She's said to have worked at Harvard before being scouted by Hope's Peak, though states that it was a mistake to have been there a little later on in the introduction.
After losing consciousness due to reasons unknown at the time, Rei along with the other 14 participants would've woken up and been greeted by an anonymous announcement, redirecting everyone to the gym area. Upon entering the gym, Monokuma jumped up from behind a small sized desk. Soon enough, he would announce the start of the Killing Game, announcing that the only way for anyone to leave would've been to kill and get away with it. Unlike the other participants, Rei wouldn't show much of a reaction to the announcement, rather checking that nobody had taken the words of Monokuma seriously.

Chapter 1[]
The first day of the killing game, Rei would investigate the school alone, finding a brochure that detailed the first floor of Kibōgamine Gakuen. A few days later, the first motive would be handed out in the form of a video. Although the contents of Rei's video are unknown, she doesn't show much of a reaction, remaining as annoyed and pokerfaced as she usually is. She remains disapproving of the other students when they try to build trust back up, scolding them by saying "no-one wants to socialise with would-be murderers".
The day after the motive was given, Rei and Kiyoka would go missing. Neither could be found by the others, although Kakeru would see her investigating around the school around the time Kiyoka died. Soon enough, the body discovery announcement would play, announcing the death of Kiyoka. Though slow, Rei would arrive at the area the body was discovered, revealing that she had in fact been investigating during the time the announcement played, having found something that had worth to her. During the investigation, Yuki would check with her to see if she was telling the truth about her morning investigation, to which she tells him to talk to Kakeru to confirm her alibi.
Chapter 2[]
After Mitsuhiro's execution, Tsurugi creates a group to ensure the safety of the students. Of the students, everyone would join with the exception of three people. Rei was one of the three, along with Kizuna and Kinji. While she had left the dining hall before breakfast could commence, she is found investigating the power room on the second floor. Rei, along with Yuki, are told by Monokuma that the reason the power room exists is due to the school being unable to receive power and electricity from outside, which aggravates Rei, questioning how that's possible due to Kibōgamine Gakuen being in the middle of the city. A few days later, Monokuma would call them all to the gym and give them the second motive: each other's secrets. While they aren't allowed to choose their own secret, they can choose each other's secrets. Rei's secret and the secret she receives is unknown.
Just before the second investigation, Rei was on the second floor when a fire broke out in the switchium. Along with Kinji, Tsurugi and Ayame, she would extinguish the fire and check the inside of the switchium with Ayame and Tsurugi, discovering Kizuna's dead body and triggering the body discovery announcement.
Chapter 3[]
The day after Ayame's execution, the students, with the exception of Akane, would investigate the areas that had newly opened up, Rei investigating the art room on the third floor alongside Mikako. When Yuki finds a photo showing the students posing and smiling together with a human-sized rip in it, Rei notices what he's found and goes to look at it, but Monokuma takes it before she is able to. Yuki tells her about the photo's contents and that there's an imposter among the students, Rei becoming confused but intrigued at the news. After investigations conclude, Mikako would call everyone to the dining hall to corroborate their findings.
When in the dining hall, the students would tell the others about what they found, Kinji in particular finding a cellphone in a drawer in one of the classrooms. Since Kinji doesn't know how to use the phone to call for help, he gives it to Kakeru, who finds that there's no signal. He then gives it to Rei, who figures out that the issue is the area, and discovers that Kiyoka was the original owner of the phone through looking at the phone background. The phone leaves the students confused, as since they are believed to be in the middle of Tokyo, there should be cellphone service, as well as wondering why only Kiyoka's phone is in the school. The phone is left in the hands of Kinji for safekeeping. Mikako would then show everyone the reason for calling them all to the dining hall, taking them to the storage room and saying she'd heard someone's voice from behind it, explaining that it was the reason she was late to the trial elevator the day before. After Kakeru and Haruhiko moved the bookshelf, the students saw a giant hole in the wall with a staircase leading down. When they go to enter, Monokuma stops them, showing them a gun attached to the ceiling that would shoot if they attempted to enter. With Monokuma guarding the entrance, the students are forced to give up, but Rei and Kanata reason that there must be something important down there.
The next day, Monokuma would call the students to the gym and present the third motive to them, a video that would show the students their desires or something they want to obtain. Unlike the first motive videos, these videos would be viewed in a soundproofed dark room, so no one other than the student viewing each video could see. The students are also told they can't say tell anyone else the contents of their video or show their reactions. The contents of Rei's video are unknown, and the order the students went in is also largely unknown. Everyone was extremely uncomfortable by the time the motives ended. Rei would then ask Monokuma who Hanzo was, to which Monokuma wouldn't answer. Shortly after Monokuma left, Akane would snap out of her shell-shocked state, screaming and running out of the gym. The others would question why she did so, with Kinji proposing it may have been due to the motive video.
That night, Rei would be investigating the third floor when she would be knocked unconscious by Kinji as she would have discovered his murder plot if he hadn't. She would have her hands bound together and mouth covered by tape and placed into a locker in the art room that had previously housed Kakeru's dead body. She would wake up around twelve hours later and begin banging on the locker to attract attention. She would be found by Yuki in his investigation of the third floor, and upon being untied from her restraints, ask to inspect his hand for reasons then unknown. Once they leave the art room, Mikako would run up to them from the science lab and ask for help. The pair would go with her to find Kinji at the science lab, unable to open the door. After an attempt at pushing it open, they hear a scream and flowing water from inside the science lab. Rei uses her elbow to break the window in the door, managing to get it open. Water immediately floods the hallway, and she urgently tells them to not touch the water. When they all look into the science lab from a distance, they find Kanata's burned, tied-up body on the floor, triggering the body discovery announcement.
A second body discovery announcement would sound, leaving the four confused until Mikako runs to the second floor. Rei and the others would follow, and she would see Kakeru's corpse and Tsurugi's unconscious body. Rei would immediately start examining Kakeru's body while everyone excepting Yuki and Akane would take Kinji and Tsurugi to the infirmary to take care of their wounds. Shortly after, everyone excepting Tsurugi would return and Monokuma would appear. Monokuma gives them the Monokuma File 3-1 for Kakeru and 3-2 for Kanata. Rei inquires if the order of the files means anything about the order of death, but Monokuma tells them it's because everyone is gathered at Kakeru's crime scene, so his is number 1. Everyone is concerned about the prospect of a serial killer, so Monokuma implements the rules that no student can kill more than two people and that no one can kill after an investigation has started. Due to Monokuma's words, Rei deduces Kakeru and Kanata were killed by the same person.
Monokuma would then leave, and Rei would go to investigate the science lab. Upon getting there, she would meet with Monokuma to have the stun gun removed from the water, making it safe to walk on. When Yuki goes to the third floor, Rei tells him the water in the hallway was now safe, and they go to investigate the science lab. When Yuki asks Rei why she asked him to give her his hand upon leaving the locker earlier, she wouldn't tell him, only saying it was an insurance and a final trump card to be used against the killer.
After Kinji's execution, Monokuma would randomly stop working. Mikako would notice first and urge everyone to run to the warehouse. The students would go down the stairs leading from the hole in the wall to find an empty room with a gate and unlocked door. Monokuma would soon show up and say that he had disposed of what had been down there, leaving everyone besides Rei crestfallen at their hope of escaping being crushed.
Chapter 4[]
The day after the execution, Rei would investigate the fourth floor, telling Yuki of a hypothesis she had about their situation. She explains that the bodies of the children Kinji took care of being decomposed enough to see bones doesn't make sense as in theory, the children had only been dead around 2 weeks. She then tells him that they might've spent a long time within the school and just can't remember it, affirming the statement by bringing up the class photo Yuki had found in the art room and the paper detailing the closure of Kibōgamine Gakuen in the library. She speculates the mastermind had erased their memories, and asks how Mikako acts normally as Yuki had spent the most time with her. Yuki replies that she's quiet and mostly dazed, but Rei says that among their classmates, she's the most likely to be the mastermind.
The next day, Monokuma would call all the students to the ballroom. When they gather there, Monokuma tells them he prepared a dance party to help lift their spirits up. The students are skeptical, so Monokuma prepares a memorandum that he signs to prove his intentions. The students go into change rooms divided by sex to change into ballroom outfits, Rei being the 6th one ready and out. Monokuma then tells them to form pairs in order to begin dancing, Rei forming a pair with Tsurugi due to their shared distaste at having to dance.
Music begins to play as the pairs dance, and after they are finished dancing, Monokuma leads them to a dining hall to eat. Everyone is lively and having fun until Teruya asks to save some food, and Akane asks to change her clothes, to which Monokuma denies. He then tells the students they aren't allowed to leave or change, and Tsurugi would bolt out of his seat, Rei walking after him.
Upon finding the door was locked, Rei, along with everyone else, would then go back to the dining hall to find Haruhiko and Satsuki had eaten almost all the food and explain the situation. They would then begin to investigate the ballroom. Rei would investigate the arsenal, explaining to Yuki that the symbol on the large banner in the arsenal was the mark of the Kisaragi Foundation, a company that specialised in robotics and technology. She would also voice her suspicions of Mikako, who had been fixated on the symbol but refused to say anything about it. After they had reconvened and presented their findings, Monokuma would call them all to the dance hall to distribute keys to the dorm rooms to each student. He would also announce the fourth motive, which is the ballroom itself, making it impossible to leave unless killing someone. Monokuma also tells them that they aren't permitted suicide, and that the reason for getting rid of their clothes was to prevent them from unlocking the door using their student handbooks. They are also told that all rules except the vandalism and violence against Monokuma rules are void while in the ballroom, there is no set 'night time' and the morning and night broadcasts will change.
Rei would leave early and investigate through the night. Over the next two days, the food supply exhausts more than it should have, so Akane would talk with Rei, believing Rei to be the reason. Rei would insult her by calling her a pig.
The night of the sixth day, Rei would walk in on the meet-up of Yuki, Akane, Satsuki, Teruya, Haruhiko and Mikako, wanting to hear the details of the food situation as the food had run out that morning. Mikako tells her what Satsuki and Haruhiko had done, and when Haruhiko attempts to blame her for the food depletion, she says that neither Tsurugi nor her had eaten very much since the second day. Rei then shows them some food she had found in Teruya's dorm room, saying he had hidden food for himself without the others noticing. Haruhiko becomes angry and gets in Teruya's face to voice his hypocrisy. Haruhiko shoves Teruya into Yuki, and Teruya does the same to Haruhiko. Yuki and Satsuki restrain the two, and Rei comments that means of escape other than murder is impossible.
Two days later, Yuki and Teruya would find Haruhiko's dead body in the arsenal, alerting Rei and the others to the scene and triggering the body discovery announcement. Monokuma immediately gives them all food to recover their stamina in order to investigate, and gives them their normal clothes and student handbooks back. Rei would begin investigating the body right after Tsurugi, earlier than the others.
The morning after Satsuki's execution, Rei would call Yuki, Akane, Teruya and Mikako to her room for an operational meeting. She had created a device that would jam the surveillance camera in her room in order for them to discuss their situation safely. The group discusses the mysteries surrounding Kibōgamine Gakuen and their imprisonment, as well as finding the identity of the mastermind. Rei also tells them her idea that a long time had passed since they entered the school, and that they just didn't remember it. Mikako would stand upon hearing her idea, prompting Rei to voice her suspicions of Mikako due to her knowing behaviour. The morning announcement sounds soon after, and Monokuma would instruct the students to go to the gym. The students, excepting Tsurugi, do so.
Chapter 5[]
Upon meeting in the gym Monokuma introduces a new transfer student as the motive, a boy named Yamato Kisaragi, the Ultimate Inventor. Yamato introduces himself in a joking manner, posing cutely and calling himself an idol, making everyone confused. Monokuma explains he has an abnormality in his brain that causes him to act strangely, and that he was introduced late due to 'circumstances'. Rei begins complaining that Yamato's presence makes no sense, as the class was only made up of 15 people, and that Kibōgamine Gakuen had been sealed shut. Mikako would then walk forward and say Yamato's name, prompting Rei to voice her suspicions again. Mikako would faint due to the confrontation, and everyone crowds around her to help her. Monokuma then leaves, and the students take her to the infirmary.
Akane, Teruya, Rei and Yuki meet up in Rei's room immediately after taking care of Mikako. The group piece together clues surrounding Yamato, Hanzo Kisaragi, and the Kisaragi Foundation itself, concluding he's the prime candidate to be the mastermind. Monokuma comes in because he hadn't seen any of the students on the surveillance cameras. He also tells them the fifth and top floor of the school had opened. Monokuma then leaves to check the status of the cameras, and the students disperse to investigate the new areas.
Rei would find the door at the back of the library had opened and investigate it, telling Yuki the same thing when she finds him on the second floor. She would then go to the fifth floor and investigate the locked door of the record room, finding it was password protected. Yuki would find her before Monokuma pops up and says its locked automatically. Rei and Yuki ask why it's necessary and what had happened to the fifth floor. Monokuma lets slip that the fifth floor had been left as it was 'at the time', and also tells them the door to the record room will open once they enter the password, but also says that only one person is allowed in, the door being unable to open if someone is already inside.
Once investigations conclude, Rei, Akane, Teruya and Yuki meet in the dining hall to discuss their findings. They discuss the appearance of the fifth floor and its differences to the rest of the school, guessing its destruction had something to do with the incident that caused Kibōgamine Gakuen to close down. Teruya had found cooking supplies in the parlor, but the atmosphere made it unappealing to cook. Akane mentions the picture of Yamato in the collection room, also mentioning the first and second representatives, Yusaku and Hanzo. Teruya points out Hanzo was the owner of the school yearbook they had found, and Rei is suspicious about the turnover of representatives so quickly, saying it must've been Hanzo at the time of the entrance ceremony. Akane also shows the notebook of newspaper clippings to Teruya and Rei, Rei taking it for safekeeping. Rei says the record room couldn't be entered due to its security measures, and Yuki talks about the dead bodies of the other students found in the lab and the locked door at the end of the right hall. Rei then talks about the now-opened door at the back of the library, telling them the contents of the notebook. Rei deduces Yamato or Mikako had written the diary, and thanks the group for their support of her before leaving.
That night, Rei would call Yuki, Akane and Teruya to her room to properly discuss their findings from the investigations. Rei says that her hypothesis that a long time had passed and they just can't remember it might actually be true. When the case of the mastermind is brought up in terms of the amnesia, Rei ponders the possibility of the mastermind also being an amnesiac. She explains that using the technological expertise of the Kisaragi Foundation would make it entirely possible to manipulate memories, as well as create extremely human-like AI to power Monokuma. Before Rei can say her final piece however, Monokuma comes in because he couldn't see through the surveillance camera yet again. He speculates something had been done to it before slowing down as if he ran out of power. Monokuma slowly powers back up but leaves Rei's room to check the power. Rei ends the meeting and tells them to leave due to Monokuma's suspicions.
The next night, Rei would call Yuki, Akane, and Teruya to her room for the last time. She says that due to a brochure of the second to fifth floors of Kibōgamine Gakuen she had found, she was certain the building they had been in was a building belonging to the Kisaragi Foundation. However, since there was no more information to find, she became discouraged and scared. When Yuki asks why she's suddenly so different, Rei becomes angry and tells him to shut up. Monokuma would come in a bit later due to being unable to see them, and Rei would tell everyone to get out. They wouldn't go into her room again.
The third night, Rei would receive a note from Tsurugi telling her to go to the gym with everyone. She would knock on Yuki's door and elect that she would fetch Akane and he would fetch Teruya, but Akane wasn't in her room. Akane soon joins them in the dorm hall after investigating, and the four of them would go to the gym. Upon entering the gym they'd find Tsurugi in there holding a gun. He explains he had been reflecting on his ideologies and was guilty about being unable to properly protect the other students. Due to this guilt, he shoots himself in the forehead despite everyone pleading with him not to. The body discovery announcement sounds and Monokuma appears, but since it was a suicide there wouldn't be a class trial. Yuki insists Tsurugi is alive, and when Monokuma checks his heart, he finds it still beating. Tsurugi is rushed to the infirmary and Monokuma performs surgery on him, telling the others that the bullet was defective and only hit the skull, saving Tsurugi's life. However, the position of the bullet wound meant Tsurugi would live as a vegetable. Mikako would then run up and ask what had happened, but Rei would tell her not to worry. Monokuma would briefly explain Tsurugi's condition and then leave.
When in the dining hall the next morning, Rei would elect to work together to find more information from Yamato and Mikako. Since Mikako was a dead end, she attempted to speak to Yamato, who would immediately ask where Mikako was. Yuki tells him where she was, and Yamato runs out of the dining hall.
Rei, Yuki, Akane and Teruya would chase him to the fifth floor. Once there, they would find a fresh bloodstain on the floor. Rei along with Yuki would investigate the record room, but were unable to get in due to the password. Monokuma would pop up and tell them there was another door to the record room, and Rei would lead Yuki to the ballroom, where they'd find a cloth connecting the second floor to the first floor of the ballroom. They'd climb up and go through the door on the second floor, entering a small room with a door that led to the record room. When they enter the record room, they see a bloody Mikako holding a knife while standing over a dead Yamato.
When Yuki investigates the record room's door to the fifth floor from the inside, Rei checks along with him and finds that the rule that only one person can enter the record room at a time is good information, and makes Yuki remember the rules for entering the record room. Yuki would also consult her about the case as a whole, Rei providing two main possibilities for the circumstances of the murder. One, Mikako committed the murder. Two, someone else committed the murder and framed Mikako. Either way, she says with certainty that Mikako has no alibi.
Rei investigates the lab next, checking the corpses of her dead classmates to make sure the clump of flesh in the doorway of the lab wasn't taken from them. She finds all of the corpses untouched, so she deduces the flesh came from Yamato. She would also tell Yuki what the can of anesthetic gas was, and directed Yuki to a dying message Yamato had written that said 'Mikako'. Monokuma then calls the students to the trial elevator room.
After the announcement, Teruya would run in and tell them to follow him. He takes them to the dormitories, where he says Mikako's room was left wide open. They check the bed in her room, finding the sheet to be missing. Rei deduces the missing sheet must be the cloth in the ballroom. Monokuma would then show up and scold them, telling them to get to the trial elevator room.
During the trial, Rei would accuse Yuki of being the killer as his alibi didn't entirely line up. When Mikako lies she was an accomplice in order to save her own life, Yuki relies on Akane's testimony from being on the fifth floor the day before to have his name cleared.
After Mikako is voted as the killer, she tells them the secret she knows. She says that the mastermind had been with them since the killing game began, causing her brain to explode. She dies on Rei's shoulder. Right after Mikako's execution stops due to a building-wide power outage, Tsurugi runs in and gathers Rei, Yuki and Teruya, telling them he remembered everything and came to save them. He proclaims Akane is the mastermind and calls her the 'Ultimate Despair'. Upon hearing those words, Akane goes into a state of extreme pain in her head, eventually taking off her apron, choker, hair ribbons and bonnet. She introduces herself as the 'Ultimate Despair' as the spare power turns on. While she says that disposing of them would be easy, she still had to meet with someone, so she'd let them through to the final stage.
Chapter 0[]
When Yuki attempts to talk to Rei, she would shut down the conversation before it began.
When everyone is gathered in the dining hall the day after the trial, Tsurugi would ask the others to hit him as atonement for his earlier actions, Rei hitting him first. Tsurugi would then tell them memories of their school life, allowing Rei, Yuki and Teruya to find out Yamato was also one of their classmates. He would then explain some of the students had different personalities, like Mikako, who was loud and cheerful, and Akane who was more respectful, during school.
He then begins to mention Junko Enoshima and The Most Desperate Event in Human History, but Akane would show up and stop him. She unlocks the locked places in the school and tells them to investigate as there will be a final class trial where she will ask them the truth behind their situation. If they get it right, they can leave, get it wrong or can't answer, she'll execute them.
The students would then begin investigating.
Chapter 6[]
Rei would be found by Yuki in the third electrical room on the second floor of the dormitory. They would read the files on the computer in there together, including details of a group centered around the original Ultimate Despair, Junko Enoshima, called Ultimate Despair. The second file on the computer detailed a plan for a murder class life Junko planned to further cast the world into despair. She would erase the memories of the 78th class of Kibōgamine Gakuen and make them participate in a killing game that would be broadcasted to the world. Rei would note the killing game for class 78 hadn't happened yet at the time, and would deign to stay in the third room while Yuki went to the fourth.
She would also be in the information processing room. She would ask Yuki if he was okay when he experienced a headache, then asked him if he truly believed Monokuma was Yamato's killer. Yuki proposes Yamato and Mikako were killed for a specific reason.
Yuki would find Monokuma blocking Rei and Teruya from entering the locked door on the fifth floor. With Akane's permission however, the trio would be allowed through, seeing a beach overlooking the sea. They were soon forced back inside, and Rei had seen the name of the building they were in, the 3rd Kisaragi Laboratory. Shortly after, Monokuma would call them to the entrance hall for the final trial.
When they realise there's another mastermind besides Akane, she would urge them to remember their origins. Rei, Tsurugi and Teruya do so, but Yuki is unable to, prompting them to discover he is the other mastermind. His headaches would grow in severity and pain, triggering a flashback of the original identity, Utsuro's, memories.
After the flashbacks finish, Yuki is found in a realm of his subconscious, a figure telling him to choose between a white door and a red door.
Hope/Bad Ending[]
If Yuki chooses the white door, he remains Yuki Maeda, but regains his memories and actions he did as Utsuro. He would implore the others to punish him as they saw fit once they escaped, but Akane would allow a Monokuma to impale him on its paw, killing him.
Despair/True Ending[]
If Yuki chooses the red door, he is never to be seen again, Utsuro waking up and assuming the body. He would introduce himself, and Tsurugi would confirm that's what Yuki was like during school. Utsuro would resolve to end the killing game by killing Rei, Tsurugi and Teruya, but the trio refuse to give up hope, Utsuro responing by sending them into despair.
He would tell Rei that her parents, who she believed had abandoned her, actually loved her. He'd explain that when her parents went bankrupt, they had outstanding loans to dangerous people, and entrusted Rei to the care of a relative to keep her safe. However, the relative would betray them, leaving Rei alone and on the streets. When they heard about Rei's death, they went to Junko and begged to see her, but Utsuro wouldn't tell her what happened to them after that, instead keeping her guessing which sends her into despair.
When an Alter Ego of Yamato overwrites the monitor Monokuma was using to oversee the trial, he and Teruya spur hope into Rei, waking her up and giving her the resolve to keep going. When Tsurugi wakes up, he gathers Rei and Teruya and the trio gather behind Utsuro. A Monokuma would advance at Rei to kill her, but Akane would dive in front of her, saving her life but getting slashed in the process. The self-destruct sequence would be initiated, and Rei, Tsurugi and Teruya would escape the collapsing building via a helicopter.

Chapter EX[]
Super Danganronpa Another 2[]
Prologue[]
Rei is first introduced in Super Danganronpa Another 2 alongside Teruya, a fellow member of the Kisaragi Foundation. During her first appearance, Rei, who now had a gun and an entirely different appearance, had shot Mikado after tracking him for years, believing him to be the mastermind of the Killing Game. However, this effort was futile, as the mask had protected Mikado, though it split in half due to the gunshot. While this had failed, Rei alongside Teruya had begun to explain the current situation to the best of their abilities, stating that the pair of them had been tracking Mikado for years, stating he was suspected to have run similar events before in the past. This effort was shown to also be futile, as a large amount of the participants hadn't believed them originally. As the conversation went on, their business had been stated, with Teruya stating that they were both members of the Kisaragi Foundation, which was a group of people who had been searching for remnants of despair, as well as survivors. It was here when Teruya stated that he was in charge of the foundation's financial department, whereas Rei was in charge of gathering information. Despite the group's questions to the pair, Rei simply stated that time was up, and that they would have to arrest Mikado at that very moment. Mikado would be surrounded by both Teruya and Rei, as the arrest had been started, with his crimes being stated; murder, violence, kidnapping, and thievery.
Despite her hopes, Rei had started to question the wizard's silence, though was cut short by flames the wizard had summoned. In surprise, Rei had stepped backwards due to the flames, presumably being slightly burnt as well. While she had many questions, Mikado would seemingly be unresponsive to them. It was then when things took a turn, with him directly saying "To be frank, this is really cutting it close...but, more importantly....17 is over the limit." After saying this, Mikado would start to use his magic once again, but now directly at the former professor. Flames surrounded the professor, starting to crawl up her as well. The flames would reach great heights, with there being no escape. Within only mere moments, the professor who had been previously standing in that exact spot would be nothing more but the burnt ground and smoke leaving it from the fire that was there moments ago.
