Appearance[]

Teruya is a short, teenage boy with tanned skin, bright green eyes and similarly coloured hair with a little fringe that almost reaches his chin. The hair curls around his face and flicks off at the back, and is styled into a floppy point at the top of his head which almost gives the impression of foolish hair (an ahoge) on his head. It is later explained that his father suggested that he should have this strange hairstyle, as it would give him a unique appearance that will make a lasting impression when selling goods. The uniform that he wears throughout the game consists of a traditional black school gakuren with two white perpendicular stripes running diagonally across and a bright rainbow pattern intersecting at the bottom. The top buttons of his gakuren are clearly undone on his sprites, revealing a red t-shirt underneath. He wears plain black pants and light, pale indoor shoes. Teruya is one of the shortest members of our cast of characters in Danganronpa Another.

After Chapter 4, Teruya also incorporates Haruhiko's goggles in his apparel, wearing them ontop of his head.

In his illustration, Teruya is depicted with his gakuren buttoned all the way up, and wearing a small green and yellow apron which displays his business' logo on the front. The apron ties into a bow at his back. He also seems to be wearing a pair of wooden sandals.

During the party in Chapter 4 of Danganronpa Another, Teruya has a different appearance. Not only does he sweep his fringe to one side to make it neater, but he also wears different clothing. During this party, Teruya is shown to wear a black suit which has golden rims and buttons, and also has two silver metal buckles and black straps to keep the suit buttoned up. He wears plain black suit pants and a white dress shirt, as well as a big red bow tied under his collar.

In Super Danganronpa Another 2, Teruya is a little older and seems to have grown out his hair, with it almost reaching his shoulders. He is now shown with a fringe that falls down the centre of his face and longer spikes which curl off of the back of his head. Whilst his bangs still frame his face it is to a lesser extent than it was in the first game. He wears a tall hat with black and bulky goggles attached to the brim, also donning a big black coat which extends down to his knees, which had golden buttons and several pockets on both the breast and arms. It is buttoned up halfway in his sprites. As a possible reference to his appearance in Danganronpa Another, Teruya also has a rainbow on the lower half of his coat. It also has an open collar which extends up past his hairline. Underneath his coat, he wears a grey suit jacket and similarly coloured suit pants, with a bright red dress shirt underneath and a black tie. He also wears white socks of an unknown length and shiny black shoes. As an accessory, he dons a blue scarf with pins that display a face of happiness and a face of sadness. This scarf was shown to belong to his father before he took possession of it.

Creation and Development[]

According to LINUJ, Teruya's design in Danganronpa Another hadn't undergone many if any changes since development, nor had his personality, with no proper beta or prototype design beforehand[5].

When he returns in Super Danganronpa Another 2 a similar thing happened, where the only change with his design was a shorter coat compared to his finalised design. His design contains clothing items from dead people he was close to in the past such as Haruhiko Kobashikawa's goggles, and a hat and scarf from his father: Kojiro Otori. Originally, LINUJ wished to release the fact that Kojiro was dead in Danganronpa Another, but didn't see enough reason to do so[6].

LINUJ's decision to make Teruya the chapter five victim was an idea he had since creating him for Super Danganronpa Another 2, stating that he had wanted a 'sacrifice death', and that there was a buildup from the previous chapters to get to this point. LINUJ also wanted to kill off Teruya due to him acting as a balance for the Kisaragi Foundation, more so wanting to kill him off for the development of the other two leaders; Rei Mekaru and Tsurugi Kinjo[6].

Name Etymology[]

Teruya's given name uses the kanji 照 (teru), meaning "to illuminate" or "to shine", and 屋 (ya), meaning "shop". His surname, Ōtori, means "large bird".

In Chinese mythology, 鳳凰 (fènghuáng) is an immortal bird – more specifically a phoenix – whose rare appearance is said to be an omen foreshadowing good luck, which explains Teruya's unusual success in his business as the Super High School Level Merchant.

Personality[]

Teruya is a lighthearted boy who is gifted in management and business, and even aspires to be the next manager of the Otori Mart. He has a positive yet childish demeanour, and is prone to not take things seriously. Perhaps due to his gift in management , Teruya has a strong memory, and he can remember the items in storage and the gift shop, as well as the exact placement of those items.

Teruya speaks in a strange accent, as he has travelled all over the country, and picked up different dialects. It is implied that his dialect his fake, and is only used to make himself stand out more. When he gets nervous, however, he uses the standard language instead. He also has weird taste when it comes to fashion, but strangely enough, it can become a major trend thanks to his talent.

In Super Danganronpa Another 2, Teruya became a member of the Kisaragi Foundation. He now projects a more driven personality, showing determination to prevent the incidents similar to those that he and his classmates went through. However, he still retains some of his eccentricities, making it hard for the other students to trust him. He develops a type of amnesia when returning in the second chapter, shown by him not remembering Rei's death until his memories slowly start to regain in the later chapters, which may have been a co-cause in his distrust in the participants of the Killing Game. He's also easily manipulated due to his passion for working under the Kisaragi Foundation, although he's also quite resourceful. When it's revealed that he's been used, however, he's shown to become angry at such a revelation, albeit more to himself more than the person who used him.

History[]

Before the killing game[]

Before the Killing Game, Teruya was raised by his father, Kojiro, who had owned a company called the 'Otori Mart'. Whenever Teruya had any troubles during his childhood his father would come to help him. Along with this, he also taught everything Teruya had to know about being a Merchant.

It is mentioned in Chapter 1 that he learnt how the layout of a product affects sales through experience at the age of six.

Due to his skills as a Merchant, Kibōgamine Gakuen would scout Teruya as the Ultimate Merchant.

Killing Game: Danganronpa Another[]

Prologue[]

Teruya was one of the fourteen students to introduce himself to Yuki, revealed to have been gifted at management and business from a young age. Soon after the introductions had ended Teruya would begin to head into the main school building with the other participants. However, like the others, he would fall unconscious.

Once awoken Teruya would head to the Entrance Hall where he would regroup with the other participants. An anonymous announcement would soon play directing everyone to the Gym. At their arrival the Killing Game would be announced by Monokuma.

Chapter 1[]

The first day of the killing game, Teruya would investigate the school with Ayame and Haruhiko. The three looked around the gym for any hidden stairs or passages, but would be unsuccessful. They also found the second floor of the school was blocked by a wire mesh, and were able to confirm there's cameras everywhere. A few days later, the first motive would be handed out in the form of a video. Although the contents of his video are unknown, he is extremely distressed after watching it, crying and screaming that he must get out. After the first body discovery Yuki would meet with Teruya, Teruya revealing that he had memorised the layout of the antiques store. Due to this he would be able to confirm that the rope and hook used in the murder hadn't come from the storage room.

Chapter 2[]

After Mitsuhiro's execution, Tsurugi would create a group to ensure the safety of the students. Everyone, including Teruya, joins, with the exception of Rei, Kizuna, and Kinji. The students would investigate the places that had newly opened up after breakfast, Teruya being found in the first-floor hallway facing the unblocked staircase. A few days later, Monokuma would call them all to the gym and hand out the second motive: each other's secrets. While they aren't allowed to choose their own secret, they can choose each other's secrets. Teruya's secret is that he sleeps with his dad, and the secret he receives is unknown. The next day, Akane mentions seeing Kizuna crying during breakfast, so the students in Tsurugi's group go to the gym to invite her to rejoin. Kizuna accepts.

After the second investigation began, Teruya would begin to panic. Yuki would ask him about the tools found at the scene, including a fuse, flashlights and a lighter. Teruya would respond that he had noticed the layout of the antique shop had changed the previous night when everyone in Tsurugi's group was together. He would additionally say that although there were wires at the antique shop, they hadn't been taken at the time he checked.

The day after Ayame's execution, everyone excepting Akane, Tsurugi, Yuki, Rei and Kinji would talk amongst themselves and decide to break away from Tsurugi's authority. They'd also elect to avoid Yuki due to his secret. When they tell Yuki this, Monokuma tells them that he planted an 'imposter' early in the game, even before Kiyoka died. Everyone assumes it to be Yuki, and they promptly kick him out of their group.

Chapter 3[]

After Yuki is expelled from their group, the students, with the exception of Akane, would investigate the areas that had newly opened up, Teruya investigating classroom 3-1 on the third floor. After investigations conclude, Mikako would call everyone to the dining hall to corroborate their findings.

When in the dining hall, the students would tell the others about what they found, Kinji in particular finding a cellphone in a drawer in one of the classrooms. Since Kinji doesn't know how to use the phone to call for help, he gives it to Kakeru, who finds that there's no signal. He then gives it to Rei, who figures out that the issue is the area, and discovers that Kiyoka was the original owner of the phone through looking at the phone background. The phone leaves the students confused, as since they are believed to be in the middle of Tokyo, there should be cellphone service, as well as wondering why only Kiyoka's phone is in the school. The phone is left in the hands of Kinji for safekeeping. Mikako would then show everyone the reason for calling them all to the dining hall, taking them to the storage room and saying she'd heard someone's voice from behind it, explaining that it was the reason she was late to the trial elevator the day before. After Kakeru and Haruhiko moved the bookshelf, the students saw a giant hole in the wall with a staircase leading down. When they go to enter, Monokuma stops them, showing them a gun attached to the ceiling that would shoot if they attempted to enter. With Monokuma guarding the entrance, the students are forced to give up, but Rei and Kanata reason that there must be something important down there.

The next morning, Akane would join the group for breakfast, though she would be in her shell-shocked state and unresponsive. Due to Satsuki's words of trusting Yuki, he would be reinstated into their group.

The next day, Monokuma would call the students to the gym and present the third motive to them, a video that would show the students their desires or something they want to obtain. Unlike the first motive videos, these videos would be viewed in a soundproofed dark room, so no one other than the student viewing each video could see. The students are also told they can't say tell anyone else the contents of their video or show their reactions. The contents of Teruya's video are unknown, and the order the students went in is also largely unknown. Everyone was extremely uncomfortable by the time the motives ended. Shortly after Monokuma left, Akane would snap out of her shell-shocked state, screaming and running out of the gym. The others would question why she did so, with Kinji proposing it may have been due to the motive video. The students, excepting Rei, Mikako and Kinji would go to find Akane, eventually finding her in her dorm room. Monokuma would then sound the nighttime announcement, prompting everyone to stop and go to bed.

The next day at breakfast, Teruya would become angry at their lack of progress, especially since they had found a secret staircase but were unable to go down it. He would also mention that Rei, Kinji and Tsurugi were all looking for ways to escape, yet they were doing nothing. Haruhiko also begins to raise his voice at Teruya, saying that he wasn't the only one scared of what would happen. When Teruya taunts Haruhiko to murder him and get executed, Haruhiko runs up to him, and tensions continue to rise as Teruya voices his helplessness at the situation. Kakeru runs up in between them and gets them to stop fighting and reconcile. Later that day, Haruhiko, Satsuki and Teruya would find a bloodied Akane in the hall of the dorms, attempting to kill herself. After saying that she had done it to join Ayame due to the contents of her motive video. Teruya would witness as Mikako calms Akane down, but she attempts to say that Akane is "so much more", which prompts her to collapse from a headache.

The next day, Yuki, Satsuki, Haruhiko, Teruya and Akane would congregate in the dining hall for breakfast, Akane being back to her bright, normal self. The group soon became confused at Kakeru's and Kanata's absences, and when Mikako came in late, they worriedly begin looking for the pair. Teruya searches the first floor, being seen near the entrance to the dorm floor. He and Satsuki are the last people to find Kinji on the second floor, Kinji waking up shortly after. He is confused at the scene, saying he remembered going to the library at night, then a pain in his head, but can't remember anything else. They all then hear a banging noise coming from the third floor, electing to split into two groups to investigate the two floors. Teruya, along with Haruhiko, Satsuki and Akane, opt to search the second floor.

Where he investigated was unknown, but at a certain point he was alerted to the library by Akane seeing Kakeru's corpse and Tsurugi unconscious on the ground. The body discovery announcements for Kakeru and Kanata would sound, and the people from the third floor would come down. Everyone excepting Rei, Yuki and Akane would then take Kinji and Tsurugi to the infirmary to take care of their wounds, Teruya in particular applying basic first aid. Shortly after, everyone excepting Tsurugi would return and Monokuma would appear. Monokuma gives them the Monokuma file 3-1 for Kakeru and 3-2 for Kanata. Everyone is concerned about the prospect of a serial killer, so Monokuma implements the rules that no student can kill more than two people and that no one can kill after an investigation has started.

After Kinji's execution, Monokuma would randomly stop working. Mikako would notice first and urge everyone to run to the warehouse. The students would go down the stairs leading from the hole in the wall to find an empty room with a gate and unlocked door. Monokuma would soon show up and say that he had disposed of what had been down there, leaving everyone crestfallen at their hope of escaping being crushed.

Gambler's Ornament[]

This is a small scene unlocked if you have the Gamble of Ornament (or Gambler's Ornament) present in your possession by the third in-game day of Chapter 3.

Upon leaving the dining hall on the third in-game day of Chapter 3, Haruhiko would also leave, asking Yuki if he would like to try the slot machines in the casino, the reason being that Yuki would always get jackpots due to his luck. If you don't have the present in your possession, Yuki disagrees, and a normal free time event occurs, but if you do, he agrees, and he goes along with Haruhiko.

When Yuki and Haruhiko enter the casino, they find Teruya, Kinji and Satsuki already there. Haruhiko only knew of Satsuki and Teruya being there, so he asks Kinji why he was in the casino. Kinji responds that the casino was noisy and went to investigate, finding Teruya and Satsuki at a slot machine, and called it an "interesting nightlife entertainment". Kinji also explains that although gambling isn't something priests can really do, as long as it's confessed, there isn't a problem. After the conversation about religion ends, Yuki is forced onto the slot machine, the others witnessing and marvelling as he gets one jackpot after another. When Yuki leaves the casino, he is quite annoyed.

Chapter 4[]

The day after Kinji's execution, Teruya would not attend the morning meet-up with Akane, Satsuki and Yuki, opting to rest in his room. After the investigations of the fourth floor conclude, he and Haruhiko would join in on the investigation reports. He has grown despairful, agreeing with Yuki's sentiment about struggling to find hope in the situation.

He would attend the morning meet-up the next morning when Monokuma would call all the students to the ballroom. When they gather there, Monokuma tells them he prepared a dance party to help lift their spirits up. The students are skeptical, so Monokuma prepares a memorandum that he signs to prove his intentions. The students go into change rooms divided by sex to change into ballroom outfits, Teruya being the third one ready and out. Monokuma then tells them to form pairs in order to begin dancing, Teruya forming a pair with Mikako by default after everyone else has.

Music begins to play as the pairs dance, and after they are finished dancing, Monokuma leads them to a dining hall to eat. Everyone is lively and having fun until Teruya asks to save some food, and Akane asks to change her clothes, to which Monokuma denies. He then tells the students they aren't allowed to leave or change, and Tsurugi would bolt out of his seat, Rei walking after him. Yuki, Akane, Mikako and Teruya would follow Rei and Tsurugi, while Haruhiko and Satsuki would stay behind and continue to eat.

Upon finding the door was locked, Teruya and the others would go back to the dining hall to find Haruhiko and Satsuki had eaten almost all the food and explain the situation. They would then begin to investigate the ballroom. Teruya would investigate the changing rooms after Akane had found normal clothes had been taken, affirming her findings. After they had reconvened and presented their findings, Monokuma would call them all to the dance hall to distribute keys to the dorm rooms to each student. He would also announce the fourth motive, which is the ballroom itself, making it impossible to leave unless killing someone. Monokuma also tells them that they aren't permitted suicide, and that the reason for getting rid of their clothes was to prevent them from unlocking the door using their student handbooks. They are also told that all rules except the vandalism and violence against Monokuma rules are void while in the ballroom, there is no set 'night time' and the morning and night broadcasts will change.

Monokuma would sound the nighttime broadcast, though they don't have to sleep or stay in their rooms. In order to keep order, Yuki instructs Teruya, Akane, Mikako, Haruhiko and Satsuki to stay in their rooms as normal. The next morning, the six gather in the dining hall, Akane distributing the food in an appropriate way. The six meet back up again at dinner, only to find the amount of food had decreased more than it should have. The following night at dinner, they begin to lose hope about getting out when Monokuma shows up and says they can leave if they kill, but he tells them he'll reward their investigation. Monokuma had hidden a treasure within the ballroom, and would reward the person who finds it. He also mentions that the prize for finding the treasure is something the students have lost.

That night, and the ones previous, Teruya would steal food for himself and take it to his dorm room, exhausting the food supply for the others.

In the morning on the sixth day, Akane and the other five students in their group find there's no more food left. Mikako accuses Haruhiko and Satsuki of eating some of the food at dawn, saying that she'd been camping at the dining room entrance since the day before. Teruya becomes livid with them for eating and blaming it on Tsurugi and Rei. Haruhiko attempts to defend himself, but only exposes himself and Satsuki. That night, Teruya voices his despair at the situation, causing everyone to begin fighting, but Rei would walk in to hear the details of the food situation. Mikako tells her what Satsuki and Haruhiko had done, and when Haruhiko attempts to blame her for the food depletion, she says that neither Tsurugi nor her had eaten very much since the second day. She then shows them some food she had found in Teruya's dorm room, saying he had hidden food for himself without the others noticing. Haruhiko becomes angry and gets in Teruya's face to voice his hypocrisy. Haruhiko shoves Teruya into Yuki, and Teruya does the same to Haruhiko. Yuki and Satsuki restrain the two, and Rei comments that means of escape other than murder is impossible.

Two days later, Yuki finds Teruya slowly going mad, repeating "ididnothingwrong" to himself over and over again. Later that day, Yuki calls everyone besides Tsurugi and Rei to the dining hall to come up with a policy on how to act in the future. Teruya comes up with the idea that two people sacrifice themselves, and opts to pick who by drawing lots. Satsuki, Yuki and Akane agree, but Tsurugi then walks into the dining hall and gives everyone a gun to commit mass suicide. Haruhiko and Yuki attempt to stop him, but Tsurugi throws them into the side of the fridge. Yuki attempts to calm Tsurugi down, and Tsurugi goes to tackle him but trips on a bit of the carpet. The others tie him up, gag him and leave him in his room, Mikako holding his room key in the event he needs to be let out.

That night, he writes a letter to Haruhiko asking him to come to the arsenal to discuss something. He enters the arsenal and puts non-standardized bullets in a pistol magazine so that it would explode from the inside He slid the note under Haruhiko's door and waited in his room. This was a plan to indirectly kill Haruhiko, but he eventually got tired and fell asleep, this being the end of his influence in the murder.

The next day, Teruya would find Yuki standing in front of the arsenal trying to open the door. The two would manage to get the door open, only to be blinded and deafened by a flashbang. The noise would alert the others, and they would find Haruhiko's dead body sitting against one of the gun displays. Monokuma immediately gives them all food to recover their stamina in order to investigate, and gives them their normal clothes and student handbooks back.

Teruya would investigate the arsenal at first, but when Yuki finds a gun in the corner, Teruya would freak out and stop him from investigating it, saying the gun would blow up. He had been under the impression Yuki would fire the gun with intent to kill, but once Yuki calms him down and asks why he thought the gun would blow up, Teruya would panic and run out of the arsenal.

After Satsuki's execution, everyone excepting Rei goes to Tsurugi's room to check on his wellbeing, however he would not respond. The next morning, Rei would call Teruya to her room to for an operational meeting. Once everyone is gathered in Rei's room, she tells them she had created a device that would jam the surveillance camera in her room. They discuss the mysteries surrounding Kibōgamine Gakuen and their imprisonment, as well as finding the identity of the mastermind. Rei also tells them her idea that a long time had passed since they entered the school, and that they just didn't remember it. The morning announcement sounds soon after, and Monokuma would instruct the students to go to the gym. The students, excepting Tsurugi, do so.

Chapter 5[]

Upon meeting in the gym Monokuma introduces a new transfer student as the motive, a boy named Yamato Kisaragi, the Ultimate Inventor. Yamato introduces himself in a joking manner, posing cutely and calling himself an idol, making everyone confused. Monokuma explains he has an abnormality in his brain that causes him to act strangely, and that he was introduced late due to 'circumstances'. When Mikako faints, everyone crowds around her to help her. Monokuma then leaves, and the students take her to the infirmary.

Akane, Teruya, Rei and Yuki meet up in Rei's room immediately after taking care of Mikako. The group piece together clues surrounding Yamato, Hanzo Kisaragi, and the Kisaragi Foundation itself, concluding he's the prime candidate to be the mastermind. Monokuma comes in because he hadn't seen any of the students on the surveillance cameras. He also tells them the fifth and top floor of the school had opened. Monokuma then leaves to check the status of the cameras, and the students disperse to investigate the new areas.

Teruya investigates the parlor. When Yuki asks him if he's okay due to cowardly nature in the past, he responds by saying that he must do what he can to uphold Satsuki's promise, and that wearing Haruhiko's goggles gives him strength. Yuki leaves him to investigate alone after their conversation.

Once investigations conclude, Teruya, Akane, Rei and Yuki meet in the dining hall to discuss their findings. They discuss the appearance of the fifth floor and its differences to the rest of the school, guessing its destruction had something to do with the incident that caused Kibōgamine Gakuen to close down. Teruya had found cooking supplies in the parlor, but the atmosphere made it unappealing to cook. Akane mentions the picture of Yamato in the collection room, also mentioning the first and second representatives, Yusaku and Hanzo. Teruya points out Hanzo was the owner of the school yearbook they had found, and Rei is suspicious about the turnover of representatives so quickly, saying it must've been Hanzo at the time of the entrance ceremony. Akane also shows the notebook of newspaper clippings to Teruya and Rei, Rei taking it for safekeeping. Rei says the record room couldn't be entered due to its security measures, and Yuki talks about the dead bodies of the other students found in the lab and the locked door at the end of the right hall. Rei then talks about the now-opened door at the back of the library, telling them the contents of the notebook. Rei deduces Yamato or Mikako had written the diary, and thanks the group for their support of her before leaving. Akane is worried about Tsurugi and Mikako when Monokuma shows up and says he hasn't seen any signs of Tsurugi waking up.

That night, Rei would call Teruya, Akane and Yuki to her room to properly discuss their findings from the investigations. Rei says that her hypothesis that a long time had passed and they just can't remember it might actually be true. When the case of the mastermind is brought up in terms of the amnesia, Rei ponders the possibility of the mastermind also being an amnesiac. She explains that using the technological expertise of the Kisaragi Foundation would make it entirely possible to manipulate memories, as well as create extremely human-like AI to power Monokuma. Before Rei can say her final piece however, Monokuma comes in because he couldn't see through the surveillance camera yet again. He speculates something had been done to it before slowing down as if he ran out of power. Monokuma slowly powers back up but leaves Rei's room to check the power. Rei ends the meeting and tells them to leave due to Monokuma's suspicions.

The next night, Rei would call Teruya, Akane, and Yuki to her room for the last time. She says that due to a brochure of the second to fifth floors of Kibōgamine Gakuen she had found, she was certain the building they had been in was a building belonging to the Kisaragi Foundation. However, since there was no more information to find, she became discouraged and scared. When Yuki asks why she's suddenly so different, Rei becomes angry and tells him to shut up. Monokuma would come in a bit later due to being unable to see them, and Rei would tell everyone to get out. They wouldn't go into her room again.

The third night, Yuki would fetch Teruya from his room to go to the gym upon Tsurugi's request. Teruya, Yuki, Rei and Akane would all go to the gym, finding Tsurugi in there holding a gun. He explains he had been reflecting on his ideologies and was guilty about being unable to properly protect the other students. Due to this guilt, he shoots himself in the forehead despite everyone pleading with him not to. The body discovery announcement sounds and Monokuma appears, but since it was a suicide there wouldn't be a class trial. Yuki insists Tsurugi is alive, and when Monokuma checks his heart, he finds it still beating. Tsurugi is rushed to the infirmary and Monokuma performs surgery on him, telling the others that the bullet was defective and only hit the skull, saving Tsurugi's life. However, the position of the bullet wound meant Tsurugi would live as a vegetable. Mikako would then run up and ask what had happened, but Rei would tell her not to worry. Monokuma would briefly explain Tsurugi's condition and then leave.

When in the dining hall, Rei would elect to work together to find more information from Yamato and Mikako. Since Mikako was a dead end, she attempted to speak to Yamato, who would immediately ask where Mikako was. Yuki tells him where she was, and Yamato runs out of the dining hall.

Rei, Yuki, Akane and Teruya would chase him to the fifth floor. Once there, they would find a fresh bloodstain on the floor. Teruya would go to the first floor infirmary to check if Tsurugi was okay, but would soon be alerted by the body discovery announcement for Yamato's death.

After Monokuma announces that the students have to go to the trial elevator, Teruya would run into the lab to find Yuki and Rei, taking them to the student dorms to show them that Mikako's door had been left wide open. The trio check the bed and find the sheet is missing, Rei deducing the missing sheet must be the cloth that was hanging from the second floor of the ballroom as a means of getting to the record room without the password.

At the end of the trial, Mikako would tell them the secret she knows, that the mastermind had been with them since the killing game began. Her brain would then explode, killing her. Shortly before Mikako's execution ends, there would be a power outage throughout the building, stopping the execution. Tsurugi would then run in and gather Rei, Yuki and Teruya, telling them he remembered everything and came to save them. He proclaims Akane is the mastermind and calls her the 'Ultimate Despair'. Upon hearing those words, Akane goes into a state of extreme pain in her head, eventually taking off her apron, choker, hair ribbons and bonnet. She introduces herself as the 'Ultimate Despair' as the spare power turns on. While she says that disposing of them would be easy, she still had to meet with someone, so she'd let them through to the final stage.

Chapter 0[]

Teruya would be on a phone call with his father when Yuki walks up to him. He'd momentarily stop talking with his father, telling him what he was doing and asking Yuki if he hated their classmates. He'd say he wants to be Yuki's friend but he wouldn't allow it, asking Yuki if he'd like to play. Yuki would accept the offer, and Teruya would end the conversation to continue talking on the phone with his father.

When everyone gathers in the dining hall the day after the trial, Tsurugi would ask the others to hit him as atonement for his earlier actions, Teruya hitting him last. Tsurugi would then tell them memories of their school life, allowing Rei, Yuki and Teruya to find out Yamato was also one of their classmates. He would then explain some of the students had different personalities, like Mikako, who was loud and cheerful, and Akane who was more respectful, during school.

He then begins to mention Junko Enoshima and The Most Desperate Event in Human History, but Akane would show up and stop him. She unlocks the locked places in the school and tells them to investigate as there will be a final class trial where she will ask them the truth behind their situation. If they get it right, they can leave, get it wrong or can't answer, she'll execute them.

The students would then begin investigating.

Chapter 6[]

Teruya would first investigate the fourth floor until he is found by Yuki. He would ask Yuki why here was a need for a ballroom, especially the empty room in it, but the topic put to rest in favour of the current investigation. After he comforts Yuki due to the shock of Akane, he would go down to the second floor of the dormitory.

When Yuki has a headache-inducing memory in the headmaster's office, Teruya is the one who snaps him out of it before continuing to investigate.

He would be next seen with Rei, the pair of them blocked from entering the door on the fifth floor by Monokuma. With Akane's permission, Teruya, Rei and Yuki would enter through the door and find a beach. They would be soon forced back inside and Monokuma would call them all to the entrance hall to begin the trial shortly after.

As the trial progresses, the students uncover more of the truths to their situation. They eventually realise there's another mastermind besides Akane, and in order to get them to remember, Akane would ask the others their origins. Teruya, Rei and Tsurugi would do so, but Yuki would be unable to, and they'd discover he's the other mastermind. Yuki would experience debilitating headaches, triggering a flashback of Utsuro's memories.

After the flashback ends, Yuki would find himself in a realm of his subconscious. An unseen figure would allow him to choose between two doors, a white one and a red one.

Hope/Bad Ending[]

If Yuki chooses the white door, he remains Yuki Maeda, but regains his memories and actions he did as Utsuro. He would implore the others to punish him as they saw fit once they escaped, but Akane would allow a Monokuma to impale him on its paw, killing him.

Despair/True Ending[]

If Yuki chooses the red door, he is never to be seen again, Utsuro waking up and assuming the body. He would introduce himself, and Tsurugi would confirm that's what Yuki was like during school. Utsuro would resolve to end the killing game by killing Teruya, Rei and Tsurugi, but the trio refuse to give up hope, Utsuro responing by sending them into despair.

To Teruya, Utsuro would explain that the funds needed to convert the school and build the executions came from Teruya's father, Kojiro Otori. Overcome by his son's death, Kojiro had gone insane with despair, donating large sums of money to Junko's cause, which included funding their killing game. Utsuro would then say that as the successor to the business that made such money, Teruya was to blame for his friend's deaths, sending him into despair.

When an Alter Ego of Yamato overwrites the monitor Monokuma was using to oversee the trial, he spurs hope into Teruya, waking him up first and giving him the resolve to keep going. He would assist in waking up Tsurugi and Rei from despair, and when Tsurugi wakes up, he gathers Rei and Teruya and the trio gather behind Utsuro. The self-destruct sequence would initiate after Akane gets slashed defending Rei from an attacking Monokuma, but Teruya, Rei and Tsurugi would escape the collapsing building via a helicopter.

Prologue[]

SDRA2 - Prologue CG - Mikado Sannoji getting rid of Rei Mekaru's remains

Soon after the announcement of the second Killing Game, both Teruya and Rei would appear at the island, Rei having shot Mikado's mask. Giving a brief explanation of what he and Rei had been there to do, Teruya would attempt to arrest Mikado. In retaliation, Mikado would surround Rei in fire while Teruya and the participants of the second Killing Game would witness her be executed. Afterwards, Mikado would shift his focus onto Teruya, sending him through the skies while the other participants watched.

Chapter 1[]

Soon after the first class trial concluded, Sora would discover Teruya to have washed up on the beach.

Chapter 2[]

SDRA2 - Chapter 2 CG - Teruya Ōtori being tied up by Mikado Sannoji

Days afterwards Shinji would ask everyone to meet at the shrine after having realised Hajime had been executed. However, Monocrow had soon appeared saying he had a special announcement to give to the participants. Soon after saying this, he would give the cue to Mikado, who would bring out Teruya, who was tied up and blindfolded with a gag in his mouth. He soon would be released, said to be one of the teachers by Monocrow. During breakfast the next day Teruya would introduce himself to the other participants.

It would soon be revealed that Teruya had no memories of trying to arrest Mikado, evident of him believing Rei had still been alive despite witnessing her death earlier. He would continuously deny that Rei was dead, saying she'd have multiple backup plans to cover her life during his denials.

Soon later Hibiki and Kanade would perform a song together, distracting Teruya from what he had agreed to do with Kokoro. It would be revealed during a flashback the culprit had that Teruya and Kokoro had initially met, the former agreeing to be her bodyguard due to her fearing someone may kill her. However, due to the concert, Teruya would become distracted with him instead paying his attention on it rather than checking on Kokoro. Due to this Emma and Kokoro would be able to talk together, Emma also being able to kill Kokoro without anyone realising it at the time.

Chapter 3[]

The day after Kokoro's trial, Teruya alongside YukiandShinji would board up the balcony on the Monocruise as a way to prevent anyone from leaving at night, something the two previous killers had been able to do.

Chapter 4[]

SDRA2 - Chapter 4 CG - Teruya Ōtori pointing a gun

Nikei would meet with Teruya during the later weeks in the Killing Game. Nikei would manipulate Teruya, saying he hadn't trusted the others and would need help, while saying similar things to the other participants, except with him not trusting Teruya instead. Due to Teruya agreeing to help Nikei, he would lock up the participants while holding a gun, interrogating them. While interrogating Shobai, Teruya would point this gun at Shobai's head while Shobai encouraged Teruya to shoot him.

Thanks to Teruya, Nikei had also been able to discover a gun found in one of the towers. After Nikei's hand had exploded due to the gun failing to shoot, Teruya had appeared confused while saying that nothing had been wrong with it previously. [7]

Talent & Abilities[]

Merchant[]

Danganronpa Another - Teruya Ōtori - Talent Introduction

As the Super High School Level Merchant, Teruya was gifted at business and management at a very young age. In the prologue, Yuki Maeda describes him as being good at both buying and selling any kind of item. An example of this is when he tries to sell the 'special school uniform' to Yuki at the beginning of the game, which happens to be the one that he wears for the remainder of the Killing Game. Teruya describes it as part of the latest fashion trend. Although he ended up bringing the wrong uniform, it's an example of Teruya's skills, because he says he made another item of clothing that was popular last year; the Tatami-Style pajama set.
